ADRA Aids Dominican Republic Flood Survivors

Silver Spring, MD, USA | 01.06.2004 | APD | ADRA

Severe flooding in the Dominican Republic has killed hundreds, with many more still missing or unaccounted for. Those affected by the flooding are receiving aid from the Adventist Development and Relief Agency (ADRA) office in the Dominican Republic. In response ADRA will provide clothing, shoes, medicine and food supplies to 1,000 people affected by the flooding. Food supplies will include rice, beans, cooking oil, potatoes, pasta, salt, milk, and oatmeal.

Medical consultation, treatment, and medicines, if needed, will be provided via a mobile health clinic in the town of Jimani, one of the hardest hit areas. Up to 15 doctors will be available at the mobile clinic.

“Thousands of people have been severely affected by this disaster through loss of family members, and the devastation of their homes, crops, and possessions. They continue to need the support ADRA is providing,” said Frank Teeuwen, bureau chief for disaster response at ADRA International.

ADRA is present in more than 120 countries providing individual and community development and disaster relief without regard to political or religious association, age or ethnicity.
