National Philanthropy Day®

ADRA partners with PSI to Assist Genocide Survivors in Rwanda

Silver Spring, Maryland/USA | 14.11.2005 | APD | ADRA

In honour of the North American " National Philanthropy Day®" on November 15, the Philanthropic Services for Institutions (PSI) has chosen to feature and raise funds for the Adventist Development and Relief Agency (ADRA) International’s food security matching grant programs.

Featuring its food security programs worldwide, and with a special emphasis on its work in Rwanda, which includes many survivors of the 1994 genocide, ADRA has launched a campaign for matching grant funds. By leveraging its global partnerships for food-based assistance programs, donations are worth seven times their original value.

“We’re grateful for the work that PSI is doing on ADRA’s behalf,” says Tereza Byrne, bureau chief for marketing and development for ADRA International. "Having recently visited our food security projects in Rwanda where we serve 70,000 people, I know how vital these programs are to families that struggle to make ends meet. Rwanda’s recent history is still very much in the forefront of a society that is striving to make peace and reconciliation an integral element of a developing future. ADRA’s food security programs are helping them to rebuild their lives."

PSI will also host a special day on November 15, at the world headquarters for the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Silver Spring, Maryland to help raise funds for ADRA’s food security matching grant program, as well as other organized events in honour of National Philanthropy Day.

To make a donation to ADRA’s food security matching grant by its deadline date of December 25th, 2005, please contact ADRA online at www.adra.org

ADRA is present in 125 countries, providing community development and disaster relief without regard to political or religious association, age, or ethnicity.

The National Philanthropy Day® is celebrated by numerous fundraisers, government leaders, businesses and individuals in North America who wish to honour all the contributions philanthropy has made.

The Philanthropic Services for Institutions (PSI) is an office of the world headquarters of the Seventh-day Adventist Church. PSI’s mission is to help Adventist institutions establish professional development programs through direct consultation, resource and information services, and incentive programs.
